Definition : Biopsy curettes designed to remove nasal mucosal cells for laboratory examination and/or test, usually by gently scraping the surface of the inferior turbinate. These curettes are typically single-use, plastic, handheld, manual instruments with a spoonlike working end of about 1.5 mm diameter and 0.5 mm depth and a flexible handle. Nasal biopsy curettes are used to collect samples for testing to determine the respiratory epithelial response to air pollutants and for assessing drug effects (e.g., in cystic fibrosis patients).
