Definition : Surgical clamps designed for the atraumatic grasping of the isthmus of the thyroid gland during open-surgery procedures. These clamps are typically handheld, manual instruments including two parts pivoted at the center with straight or angled serrated distal blades and appropriate handles with ratchet mechanisms. Thyroid surgical clamps are used in procedures intended to resect the thyroid gland and/or associated malignant tumors.
