Gel, Postsurgical Adhesion Inhibition

Definition : Gel (e.g., carbohydrate polymer) designed to act as a temporary barrier inhibiting postsurgical adhesion between tissues and organs. This gel is applied to the surface of tissues and organs at the end of surgery, before surgical close, and is typically resorbed by the body in a short period (e.g., several days or weeks). Postsurgical adhesion inhibition gel is mostly used as an adhesion barrier following spinal surgery (e.g., laminectomy) or tendon and peipheral nerve surgery. Some adhesion inhibition gels are inteneded for use in pelvic, gynecological, abdominal, or implant surgery
