Mattresses, Bed, Gel

Definition : Bed mattresses filled with gel to provide a pressure-relief surface to the patient. These mattresses are typically made of a foundation (e.g., foam) with several sections of gel bladders. Gel mattresses are used to reduce the pressure delivered from the mattress surface to the patient's skin (e.g., for the prevention of pressure sores [decubitus ulcers]).
