Ultrasound Therapy Systems, Tissue Ablation, Prostatic

Definition : Tissue-ablation ultrasound therapy systems designed to ablate regions of the prostate. These systems consist of a radio-frequency generator and an applicator including an ultrasonic transducer; some systems combine tissue ablation and ultrasound imaging in a single piezoelectric crystal. The applicators are inserted into the patient's rectum and placed adjacent to the prostate gland. Prostatic-ablation ultrasound systems are used for treating benign prostatic hyperplasia and cancer of the prostate.
