Definition : Flexible endoscopes designed for direct insertion through the mouth in the upper gastrointestinal tract for visual examination, biopsy, and treatment of lesions of the interior of the small intestine. Enteroscopes usually consist of a flexible outer sheath, a lighting system, and a working channel for catheters and operative devices.
