Simulators, Training, Nursing Skills

Definition : Simulators designed for use in nursing skill training. These simulators usually include a whole body anatomic model (i.e., manikin) that includes many detachable components and multiple anatomic landmarks (e.g., nose, mouth, tongue, and also the main body tracts [e.g., gastrointestinal, respiratory, urinary]). The simulators also include devices such as masks, gloves, bandages, catheters, and suctioning devices; some of the devices can be applied to the manikin and/or inserted in the manikin's tracts. Instructors can use nursing skill simulators and the associated manikins for training in a great variety of nursing procedures, including the application of bandages and wound care, eye irrigation, suctioning, enema administration, and catheter and cannulae placement as well as in dressing and bed bathing of patients. Manikins included in these simulators are available in different body types and sizes such as child, adult, and bariatric.
