Definition : Gas state lasers that use nitrogen as their active medium and operate in the ultraviolet range (UV) (typically 337.1 nm). The nitrogen gas is pumped to the activated state by an electrical discharge. UV laser beams generated by nitrogen lasers have many uses where precision cutting by laser may be needed, including microdissecting of tissues in laser microdissection systems.
