Orthoses, Spine, Cervical

Definition : Spine orthoses designed for external modification of the structural and/or functional characteristics of the cervical segment of the spine, that provide immobilization and/or support. Cervical spine orthoses include soft cervical orthoses (e.g., foam collars) that are intended to provide limited support and stabilization or semi-rigid and rigid orthoses that can provide total immobilization of the cervical spine. Cervical orthoses are intended mainly to reduce pain, to provide therapeutic motion control or complete immobilization of the cervical spine; they are frequently intended for therapeutic and/or daily use (i.e., functional use) after injuries or trauma.
