Analyzers, Physiologic, Temperature/Base Screening

Definition : Physiologic analyzers designed to obtain estimates of a variety of physiologic parameters (e.g., blood components) based on the variations of the external temperature in a group of selected body areas. These analyzers typically consist of a main unit and several attached temperature sensors. The main unit digitizes the temperature values taken by the sensors at a pre-established rate and time (usually about 12 minutes) and delivers the data to a computer for processing using a dedicated software. The temperature sensors are placed in several reference points on the body (e.g., armpits, umbilical area, carotid artery). Temperature-based screening analyzers are mostly intended to obtain preliminary estimate of hematology values, such as hemoglobin and hematocrit levels; red, white, and lymphocyte cell counts; electrolytes (e.g., sodium potassium, calcium); and other blood components (e.g., cholesterol). They may be used for health status screenings.
