Bristled Mats, Physical Therapy

Definition : Bristled mats designed to apply pressure on points that are very close to each other on a particular area of the body for therapeutic purposes. These devices typically consist of a symmetrical arrangement of many plastic bristles attached at uniform distances (e.g., 3 or 6 mm/0.125 or 0.25 inches). The bristles are usually shaped as needles or resembling washers; they are fixed in a fabric or plastic mat. Bristled mats are available in a variety of shapes and sizes, according to the intended area of the body to be treated. The mats may stimulate the skin and the peripheral blood circulation; they are intended to have a therapeutic effect on the musculoskeletal system, spine, joints, and muscles and also to reduce pain and improve sleeping.
