Manikins

Definition : Human anatomic models designed to resemble the whole human body. Manikins consist of an accurate three-dimensional integral or dissectible representation of the body. They may include as components organs (e.g., liver, heart), anatomic systems (e.g., skeletal, nervous, and muscular), and/or other structures (nasal cavities, middle ear) of the human anatomy. Manikins are made of natural (e.g., hair, bones, wood, metals) and or synthetic (e.g., plastics, silicone rubber) materials or a combination of these. Manikins are used for demonstration and learning the different structures of the anatomy and/or to learn how to manipulate the human body during other activities (e.g., water rescue). They may be used combined with other dedicated devices and/or computerized systems to calibrate or test devices and/or as components of simulators used for training (e.g., particular examination, therapeutic, surgical, or postmortem procedures).
