Amnioscopes

Definition : Endoscopes designed for direct insertion through the cervical canal into the closed sac between the embryo and the membrane involving it (i.e., the amniotic cavity) for visual examination, biopsy, and/or treatment of the fetus before the membrane is broken. Amnioscopes usually consist of an outer sheath, a lighting system, and a working channel for catheters and operative devices; these endoscopes may be rigid or flexible.
