Test Tubes, Centrifuge

Definition : Test tubes designed to hold chemical substances, biological products, or body fluid samples during laboratory centrifugation procedures. These devices typically consist of a glass (e.g., borosilicate) or plastic (e.g., polypropylene) tube with the bottom closed and an open top; the tubes are usually closed with a stopper and/or using a threaded or snap cap after filling. Centrifuge test tubes are available in a variety of shapes, materials, and special physical or chemical characteristics; some tubes include graduation marks and/or colored caps. They are intended to support the centrifugal forces while attached to the rotatory part of a laboratory centrifuge, avoiding cross-contamination and providing a secure container for the sample (e.g., blood, DNA samples) under test.
