Tables, Dissecting

Definition : Tables with an appropriate (e.g., stainless steel) top surface that is smooth and polished, with no crevices, screws, or rivets, and that has raised rims, rounded corners, and a flat surface. Some dissecting tables include drain capability. These tables are typically smaller than autopsy tables and are designed to provide a working surface for examination and dissection of organs and other anatomic parts, to facilitate cleaning and decontamination, and to prevent the accumulation of microorganisms. Dissecting tables are used mostly for postmortem pathologic investigations and for demonstration purposes.
