Stockinettes

Definition : Seamless tubing bandage typically open at both ends that are designed to be used around the extremities. This bandage is usually made of stretch cotton and supplied in long rolls that are typically cut in situ in segments of appropriate length for the intended use. Stockinettes are mainly used to hold bandages in place or to place uniform pressure on a part of an extremity, such as a leg, finger, or arm; they are also used as a covering for an amputation stump (e.g., when a prosthesis is worn on the stump). Dedicated stockinettes intended for use as padding under a cast or splints are also available.
