Definition : Laboratory light microscopes that illuminate the specimen only from oblique angles, so that it appears bright against a dark background. Flagella, spirochetes, bacteria ,and similar specimens stand out clearly. Most Darkfield microscopes can also be configured for Brightfield and/or phase-contrast observation. These microscopes are used in microbiology and cytology.
