Definition : Data management information systems designed to provide clinical and administrative information related to the anatomic pathology laboratory. These systems automate activities such as specimen receiving and tracking, patient demographics, coding, and case retrieval. Most anatomic pathology data management systems offer surgical pathology, autopsy, and cytology clinical packages, including tracking capabilities; they also offer other clinical and management features (e.g., tumor registry, trend reports, bar coding, billing).
