Clean Rooms, Laminar Air Flow, Mobile

Definition : Laminar air flow clean rooms mounted on casters or other means for ease of movement. These clean rooms typically provide a very low particle content environment; class 100 or better (ISO 5 or less) are typical, which reduces airborne bacteria in the room environment. The laminar flow may be either vertical (e.g., from the ceiling down) or, less frequently, horizontal, distorted only by objects (e.g., surgical lamps) and staff in the flow pathway. Mobile laminar air flow clean rooms usually consist of a metallic or plastic structure typically including rigid plastic coverings, high-efficiency particulate (HEPA) filters, lighting fixtures, and/or working surfaces. Mobile clean rooms are used to provide a contamination-free environment in field applications (e.g., surgery) and/or for emergency situations in healthcare facilities.
