Analyzers, Physiologic, Peristaltic Motility, Esophageal

Definition : Peristaltic motility analyzers designed to determine the motility of the esophagus by measuring the pressure on a swallowed catheter at several points. These analyzers usually include nonperfusion catheters to measure the esophageal pressure directly and/or perfusion catheters and extracorporeal transducers to measure the pressure indirectly. Most esophageal motility analyzers also measure pH, respiration, and swallowing using appropriate sensors. These analyzers are used in the evaluation of patients with dysphagia, acid reflux (heartburn), and/or noncardiac chest pain; they are also used for assessing connective tissue and neuromuscular diseases.
